Vito
Meet Captain Vito. He represents our buddy Jimmy in Afghanistan. Zig brings him around, & wherever the fun is, pics are tagged/posted so Jimmy knows he's w/us.
Americade
A few weeks ago, Chris M. put the invite out; he and a couple buddies were heading to Americade, were any of us interested? Well, I’ve never been before, haven’t really heard much about it, but hell, if it involves motorcycles and time-away, then I’m pretty much game.
With a name like “Americade”, one might think ‘freedom’. However, after doing some reading up on this thing, I think a better name for this event would be “If you’re a biker, don’t bother”. A direct quote from the organizers is;
“If you are coming to the Lake George Region during Americade, make sure that you, your bike, your helmet, your paperwork and your attitude are in order.”
Sir, yes Sir! How about I polish my boots and iron my jeans for ya, you douche.
Another quote;
“These are mandatory stops [by the police] for all cycles and involve a very thorough inspection of the bike, your gear and paperwork. If you are planning on traveling through those areas during those days, make sure that everything is in order and plan on the extra time when planning your trip.”
This thing is supposed to be fun?? It sounds pretty Gestapo if you ask me. Fcuk it, we’re going. And you can take those mandatory stops and shove them up your ass. We’re going to sneak in via the backroads and skirt our way around your stupid man-Duh-tory stops, how do you like that?
Thankfully, it sounds like Chris and his buddies are looking to just camp, cruise, and kick back, rather than take part in all the fancy schmancy official events (which you need to stand in line for, register for, pay for, and probably smile-the-whole-time for). I have a feeling that after experiencing this, it’s going to make me appreciate the ‘Vous all the more (like that’s even possible!).
The adventure starts tomorrow morning @ 8:45 when Zig and I meet up for a hearty breakfast before hitting the road. From there, we’ll shoot down to the rally-point gas station to meet up with the rest of the guys. Some quick intro’s all around and then we’ll point our tires to the highway.
And then, Americade, we’ll see just what you’ve got…

Turtlin' at 5am

Look at the size of this snapper turtle! Ok, phone pic doesn't do it justice, but believe me, this guy was big. (Even bigger once I picked him up and he started flailing and trying to bite me.) Got him off the road and back into the stream.
(I hope I put him on the side he wanted to go to...I can picture him thinking "Hey A-hole, it took me 3 hours to climb that embankment! I'm trying to get to the OTHER side!!!)

Time Out!
I need a breather. Every week, I knock more and more things off of my schedule, thinking the week ahead will bring some respite from the madness. The week ahead then presents a whole new list of things requiring attention. I’m not complaining – alive and busy sure beats dead and buried.
Friday night saw Danno home at last. It’s been one-day short of a full month since his accident and he was quite glad to be back home, surrounded by friends and family. He’s still got a long road ahead of him, but each day is a step closer.
After spending some time with him, it was off to Zig’s for this year’s ‘Vous planning party. We’ve got a number of new faces heading out this time around and it should be a great, great year. We’re going to try a “kinda new” approach this year. In years past, we’ve always wound up bringing too much food and wind up tossing stuff out at the end of the weekend. Last year, a few of us opted to forgo the “bring food and cook it” theme, and just went lighter; cash, and vendor meals. And it worked great! But some folks would still rather cook, and that’s perfectly fine, too. So, it was left at; if you want food to cook on the grille, bring what you would like (pretty much; bring for yourself). We’ll see how things roll out and adjust as necessary for next year. (Personally, I think we’re going to wind up with a lot more coolers going out than need to, but we’ll see.) After the meeting was concluded, those that stuck around continued the merriment until far into the night. (Far into the following morning, I should say…)
Saturday consisted of chores and errands around the house, followed by the Minute to Win It fundraiser at the Legion on Saturday night. Our Legion Riders chapter is still quite green and we’re going through a lot of growing pains, but the turnout wasn’t bad and everyone had a great time. I even tried my hand at the contests and did fairly well…right up to the last one; stacking golf balls. So close…but denied, none the less. There were only two contestants that succeeded, so they had to go again, this time to see who could do it the fastest. Lynne stacked them again, in 16 seconds!! WTF?? Needless to say, she took home the prize money.
Once that wrapped up, it was time to catch the rest of the B’s game. They were up by a goal, going into the 3rd period, but fell apart once again, losing in OT to go down 2-0 in the series. Dammit.
Sunday was a long, long day. Up at 5am, on the road to NH to work on the house up there. Scraped and painted the deck - man, those spindles are a pain in the ass! 17.5 hours later, found me finally collapsing back into bed and trying to get some sleep before it was time to head in to work this morning.
And now it’s another work week – but this one is a short one, thankfully. I’m taking Thursday and Friday off to head to Americade, in upstate NY. I’ve never been before, but Chris M and a couple of his buddies are heading up and they put the invite out. We’ll see how it goes. If it blows, I’m sure we can find some great roads, and some great trouble, to get into. At the least; it’ll be another road adventure!

Rum or Whiskey?
The date on the Crown Royal seal: 1961! That is quality stuff!! Let's try it! Or, we can save it and go with the rum. Wow, that's harsh stuff!
Cherry & Chocolate
'Vous meeting is done, now we're kickin' back and enjoying Zig's liquor cabinet. Next up: Wild Berry Liqueur + Dark chocolate. Frickin' yum!

Friday Night Feelin' Right
Clear road for the ride home, a quick wardrobe change, then off to visit Danno (home today!), then off to the 'Vous planning party. A great night lies ahead...
