I need a breather. Every week, I knock more and more things off of my schedule, thinking the week ahead will bring some respite from the madness. The week ahead then presents a whole new list of things requiring attention. I’m not complaining – alive and busy sure beats dead and buried.
Friday night saw Danno home at last. It’s been one-day short of a full month since his accident and he was quite glad to be back home, surrounded by friends and family. He’s still got a long road ahead of him, but each day is a step closer.
After spending some time with him, it was off to Zig’s for this year’s ‘Vous planning party. We’ve got a number of new faces heading out this time around and it should be a great, great year. We’re going to try a “kinda new” approach this year. In years past, we’ve always wound up bringing too much food and wind up tossing stuff out at the end of the weekend. Last year, a few of us opted to forgo the “bring food and cook it” theme, and just went lighter; cash, and vendor meals. And it worked great! But some folks would still rather cook, and that’s perfectly fine, too. So, it was left at; if you want food to cook on the grille, bring what you would like (pretty much; bring for yourself). We’ll see how things roll out and adjust as necessary for next year. (Personally, I think we’re going to wind up with a lot more coolers going out than need to, but we’ll see.) After the meeting was concluded, those that stuck around continued the merriment until far into the night. (Far into the following morning, I should say…)
Saturday consisted of chores and errands around the house, followed by the Minute to Win It fundraiser at the Legion on Saturday night. Our Legion Riders chapter is still quite green and we’re going through a lot of growing pains, but the turnout wasn’t bad and everyone had a great time. I even tried my hand at the contests and did fairly well…right up to the last one; stacking golf balls. So close…but denied, none the less. There were only two contestants that succeeded, so they had to go again, this time to see who could do it the fastest. Lynne stacked them again, in 16 seconds!! WTF?? Needless to say, she took home the prize money.
Once that wrapped up, it was time to catch the rest of the B’s game. They were up by a goal, going into the 3rd period, but fell apart once again, losing in OT to go down 2-0 in the series. Dammit.
Sunday was a long, long day. Up at 5am, on the road to NH to work on the house up there. Scraped and painted the deck - man, those spindles are a pain in the ass! 17.5 hours later, found me finally collapsing back into bed and trying to get some sleep before it was time to head in to work this morning.
And now it’s another work week – but this one is a short one, thankfully. I’m taking Thursday and Friday off to head to Americade, in upstate NY. I’ve never been before, but Chris M and a couple of his buddies are heading up and they put the invite out. We’ll see how it goes. If it blows, I’m sure we can find some great roads, and some great trouble, to get into. At the least; it’ll be another road adventure!
