Regatta Approaches!

Work has been a bear of late, but a respite lies on the near horizon.  Regatta!  Me and Zig are splitting Dodge early on Thursday and headed west.  We should be able to make decent time and will hopefully find ourselves in or near Olean city limits by 4 in the afternoon.  We're gonna pop up to see Pat and King, then visit the graves, then hopefully swing in to say hello to Jerry and Barb, then it'll be on to Mark and Mary's.  Somewhere in there, we'll catch up with Mikey who's coming up from Joisey, as well as hit the liquor and food stores for weekend supplies, as well as hitting the V to say hello to folks.  I chatted with Myszka briefly yesterday and we're gonna see if we can catch up on Thurs night.

Friday won't see a slowdown of this hectic pace- we'll meet up with Myszka and run at high speeds over some mountain passes (like last year), arriving (hopefully) safely at Regatta, proper.  From there it'll be hugs and handshakes with the crew, getting things set up, then kicking the party into high gear for (long into) the evening.

Saturday morning will be a rise and shine, stuff some food base into our bellies, then head for the waters.  Once launched, it'll be a long sweet ride down the river, enjoying the company of about 2,000 of our closest friends.  Who knows what kind of mishchief we'll find ourselves in.  But we're not worried - weather looks good, and our livers are well trained.

Hang on, it's gonna be a whirlwind for sure.

It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint

Some of you know that I went on the wagon for a while.  It wasn't an official thing, I did still have a cocktail every now and then if there was something special going on, but for the most part I was astaining.  I was also watching my diet, working out each day.  I wanted to lose all the winter weight and be fit and trim for the summer.

And the Matty had his birthday party.  Is that bad? No, it was awesome.  But I'd been tiring of the abstaining thing and looking for a reason to pick things up again.  And Matt's party seemed like a great time to let loose.  So I did.  And then I checked out a brewpub in CT the following day.  And then I had some events here at work, and then there were some events at the Post, and then I had the guys over for poker this past Saturday, and then a bunch of us took Monday off and went into Boston for Patriots Day, which means pre-gaming @ 8am when the bars open, then going to the Sox game, then post-gaming afterward and watching the Boston Marathon participants running toward the finish line.  Some of them were unsteady on their feet - 26 miles of running will do that to a body.  I was also unsteady on my feet - (seeming) 26 hours of drinking will also do that to a body.

I guess what I'm saying is that I crammed ~2 months of lost partying into a little over 3 weeks.  I need to slow this pace down.  Maybe even go back onto the wagon...

...let's see...what does my schedule have coming up...oh lord...Regatta.

Yeah, looks like it's full speed ahead.

Pardon The Interruption

I've been lax again, I know.  My workload has been pretty brutal lastely so I haven't had much time to do anything but crunch numbers.  The good news is that this month's plan wrapped up yesterday so I should have a span of about a week or two where I can get some things posted up here.

So...what should I post?  I realize I've been absent but you haven't missed anythng grand.  The weather has been unseasonably cold, but at least the snow has gone away.  We had days and days of overcast/drizzly/rainy weather so the grass is looking nice and green...and long.  Did I mention that my lawnmower shit the bed at the end of last season?  Yeah, so I don't have a means of mowing right now.  I suppose I could drag out the snowblower and give that a try.  I'm pretty sure my neighbors wouldn't even give me a second glance, I think they're used to "the wacko next door".

Let's see...what else...  We've been busy at the Legion.  We have a few new members coming on - one guys is transferring from an American Legion in Germany.  Say what?  Yeah, I didn't even realize we had one over there.  Turns out we don't have one.  We have several.  Cool!

We're working on putting together some runs this year including a bike blessing in about a month, and a scavenger hunt in August.  We're also partnering with local The Fisher House (a non-profit which provides housing for military members and their families if they're in the hospital).  Greg and I are having dinner with their executive director in a week and a half, and she's going to introduce us to the local VP of The Warrior Foundation so that we can begin assisting them with an annual run they do.  In turn, they are going to help promote the Shayne's run that we do in September.  All kinds of good stuff.

The weather should start getting better soon - I hope so, anyway.  The Cinco Finito event is in a little over a month and preparations are already underway.  I hope to see every one of you that reads these ramblings, in attendance.

There; you're all caught up with what's been going on.  Now get out and get some miles on.

Winter Was Great But Spring Is Sucking Ass

I have no idea what is going on with the weather but we're getting more snow in the past couple of days than we had for most of the winter.

A quick storm on Sunday morning dropped about 4 inches, buy it wasn't bothersome. It was almost magical - the flakes were the largest I've EVER seen! They looked like leaves falling from the sky - seriously, they were that big. I tried taking pics but they weren't coming out. :-/

Once the snow stopped, the skies cleared, the sun came out and things looked nice. I'd shoveled the driveway and the sun had all but dried it off completely. But, then it got very gray and cold in the evening, and the snow returned today. It's been just flurrying for most of the day but come rush hour, it started really snowing so of course everyone had to drive 5 miles an hour because...well...I guess that's what you do when you see white stuff in the air.

Checking the weather alerts on my phone, I found that were supposed to get up to 8 inches from this latest round. F'ing wonderful.

I went out to get a jump on shoveling and found the stuff to be much heavier than I'd anticipated. Then it occurred to me; I have a snowblower!  Ta...DA!!!

I fired the beast up and she made short work of things. Her right tire is low on air so I had a bit of a struggle keeping her straight and moving (low tire pressure allows the tire to spin easily), but all in all; she was a huge help.

One thing that was pretty cool; the snow had formed a ball on top of the LED light that shines on my flagpole. With the light on, it looked like a glowing marble in the snow.

Well, that's all I've got for ya. Guess I'll go shovel again...

How bad is it that so far, I hate Spring and wish it were Winter again.

Aprl Fools At Work

I went 1 for 2 on pranks today.  The cup full of confetti that I'd rigged up to drop all over my friend Michelle didn't work out too well.  (A few pieces fell, but most of it just tipped over on top of her shelving).  She did laugh her ass off, though, and has sworn that "It's 'on' now!" so we shall see.

The other attempt was a grand success!  I rigged up an air horn under my friend Ann's chair.  At first, I was worried hat it hadn't worked because she's usually in by 8, but come 8:05; I hadn't heard anything.  I strolled by her office to check on things and saw that she had just arrived, so I didn't hang around - I didn't want to tip her off that I was up to anything.  A few minutes later, as I was talking to some other folks, a loud siren emanated from her office.  The folks I was talking to started looking all around in confusion, and then looked at me.  (I guess me bursting into laughter indicated that I knew something was up.)  I looked at them and said "Well, Ann just sat down!"  A minute later, she came running up to me, laughing her ass off, and said she, too, is going to get me back.

Sometimes I'm surprised I get paid to work here.
