South Boston?? But we can’t be back home, it’s way too warm and sunny here!
This is the old (circa 1922) El Jobean Post Office/General Store (hotel, jail, meeting house, café, train station, etc.)
The county of El Jobean got it’s name from Joel Bean, a South Boston lawyer/developer (who then anagrammed his name to come up with El Jobean).
Carnies used to stay here as well, the most famous being Leo “Suicide” Simon, known for climbing 150’ into the air, lighting himself on fire, then diving into a small pool of water. As an added bonus, he’d line the outer edge of the pool with sharpened stakes (maybe he needed a bit more incentive not to miss the pool?). After he had many years under his belt, he changed his act to something slightly less dangerous. He’d lock himself into a crate with two sticks of dynamite and then light them. The ensuing explosion was always a crowd pleaser. (How the hell did this guy live so long???)
Anyway, none of that crazy stuff nowadays. Now it’s just a great place to park the bike on some grass and sidle up to friendly folk enjoying cold frosties and listening to live music.
51 weeks until we're pulling in once again...
