Me and the bros are 5 days away from our departure to Philly - oh that's right, I haven't expounded on that plan yet, have I? Ok, a quick summary; Last year a few of us put a trip together and headed out to Canada, Niagara Falls, and to hang out with some brothers and sisters out in Olean, NY. We agreed that it had been a righteous time and that we should make it an annual tradition to set a trip up each year that a few of us would get the time off for and then head out for some miles and smiles. So this year's destination is to do some touring down in PA. Our current itinerary is to head down on Thursday, taking our time and finding some scenic routes to travel. Hit the campground we're staying at and do some recon for breakfast places, beer...er...food stores, things like that. Friday, we're going to hit Pottsville and take a tour of the Yuengling brewery (oldest brewery in the USA). After a tour and a couple of samples (or as many as they'll let us have...), we're going to shoot a bit further north to Centralia; an abandonded township that's had a coal fire burning under it for 40 years. From there, we're planning on heading southwestwards and checking out Gettysburg and soaking up some of the history therein. Saturday will find us blasting out to York and hopefully getting a tour of the HD plant there. After that, it's off to Philly to sink our teeth into some 'official' cheesesteak subs, then do the total-tourist thing and take some pics of the Rocky statue. Hokey? Sure, but why not? We're going to be there anyway. Then Sunday we'll wend our way back homewards.
And now we've had some bad news; first, I tried moving a tree with my bike (the tree won), and now one of the bros has been hit with a pretty big setback; just had to undergo major eye surgery yesterday. They sliced the eyeball open and laid it bare. Did a bunch of attaching, reattaching, and assorted cleanup. Bottom line is that he's out for riding his bike on the trip - he's not even sure if he can go in the chase vehicle. He's got a checkup on Wednesday and that'll be when the decision is made whether he can go or not. Being the stand-up bro that he is, he's offered his bike for me to take, since my parts didn't come in, in time, so at least I'll be able to enjoy two wheels for the trip. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he'll at least be able to go with us.
That's going to do it for this post - gotta get showered up; it's Saturday night and a buddy's band is playing a gig tonight. Got a good sized group heading over to check things out - should be a good time...
